It seems like people are always looking for new ways to make money online.  There is one method that has been tried and tested, is risk free and is proven to make money online.  Most people discount it, but it has lasted for years and gets stronger all the time.  That method is taking surveys online and getting paid.

Yes, you read that right.  Online paid surveys are a great risk free way to make money online.  You may not get rich, but you can create a perfect part time job for yourself.  It isn’t unusual for people to make anywhere from $500 to $1000 a month from the comfort of their own computers taking paid surveys online.

I know that there is a lot of skepticism surrounding paid surveys online.  I think this comes mostly from two things.  First there are all the ads out there promising outrageous amounts of money like “Make $150 and hour”.  Secondly and related to the first there is a lack of information and misinformation about how to make money online through paid surveys.

Hopefully I can share my experience and clear up some of this misinformation for you.  That way you will see that paid surveys are a legitimate way to make money online.

Major companies around the world from Citibank to Microsoft to Warner Brothers to Disney all know that they have to satisfy their customers.  That’s how they get repeat business and continue making money.  In order to find out WHAT satisfies their customers they do the obvious thing, they ask them.

The medium that many companies are using to get feedback from their customers is the internet.  As of 2005 only 30% of surveys were internet based and that number has been growing steadily.  Companies realize that they can get large amounts of opinions cheaply through the use of paid internet surveys.

Companies used to have to spend much more time and money to survey their customers either by mail, by telephone or by bringing the customers to a physical location.  This was very time consuming and very expensive.

Now many companies contract with internet survey companies to get the data they need.  These large companies pay well for surveys and the survey companies pass that along to you when you take a survey from them.  When you take paid surveys online you are like a contractor for the market research company.

If you spend a lot of time online, then why not get paid for some of it by taking some paid surveys.  It’s a good and profitable use of your free time.  You get to make some extra money while enjoying yourself online.

And as a part time job it really isn’t that bad.  I’ve calculated for myself and my rate seems to be around $15.00 an hour which I think is pretty darn good for a part time job where I am working from home and making my own hours.  In addition to the cash I also receive the occasional prize like Amazon.com gift certificates or restaurant gift certificates.  Nothing big yet, but even the little things add up.

Here’s a new survey site I found recently that’s great for all you out there with MySpace, Facebook or similar accounts. The site is called dNeero and they feature social surveys.

Now what is a social survey you might ask (I know I did). They are surveys that let you post your answers to your blog or social network profile so other can react and interact with them.

Now I haven’t been really active with social networks, but I do have a Hi5 profile and I think this is a cool idea. And the coolest part is they pay you to take the surveys and pay you more when others respond to the surveys you post to your social profiles. Current surveys listed pay anywhere from $0.75 to $11.00 which isn’t bad considering the surveys take just a few minutes to take.

The site went into public beta on June 25th 2007 so it’s still a fairly new site, but it looks to be growing pretty well with over 29,000 surveys taken as of today. And the dNeero surveys have been shown over 3.3 million times. That’s a lot of survey views.

Everyone wants the highest paying surveys, because these are the real money makers among paid surveys.  So what’s the deal with these high paying surveys, the ones that are claimed to pay $75-$150?  You rarely hear of anyone who actually takes these highest paid surveys so do they really exist?  Or are the high paid surveys simply a creation of the paid survey companies made to get more people to register with them?

The truth is that these surveys do exist, but they aren’t offered all the time or to just everyone that signs up to take paid surveys.  I have taken several surveys that paid over $50 and even one that paid me $225!  The key to getting these surveys is to make the market research companies know that you’re important and that you’re reliable.

Many people turn down the surveys for $1 or $2, but these are the surveys that create a track record for you with the survey company.  When they need survey takers for the highest paying surveys who do you think they turn to?  Don’t miss out on the big paying surveys later by declining these smaller surveys now.

If you think you are going to sit down today and start taking paid surveys and make thousands of dollars a month your first few months you’re wrong.  More realistically you can make several hundred dollars in the first month doing paid surveys and will be able to slowly increase that as the survey companies begin to send you the higher paying surveys.

The people that have made a full time job from survey taking haven’t done so overnight.  They have taken the time to build a good reputation with the survey companies and they are known to be reliable.  They will take surveys regardless of the size of the reward and that is why they get the highest paying surveys now.

Once you find the highest paying surveys the next trick is to actually get accepted to take them.  If you’ve been taking surveys for any amount of time I am sure that you, like me, have missed out on some high paying surveys simply because you were too late to the game.  If you’re only checking your email once a day or less then you will very likely miss these high paying surveys because once the invitations go out they are snapped up pretty quickly.  Keep an eye on your email if you want to take the highest paying surveys.

Another reason people miss out on the highest paying surveys is that they limit themselves to just a few survey companies.  When they don’t get that $75 survey after a few weeks they give up.  Well, that won’t work if you want high paying surveys.  You’ve got to register with as many survey companies as possible, at least several dozen and a couple hundred is better.

Once you’ve registered make sure you’re checking emails several times a day and for the first month or two respond to every survey possible.  Once you’ve established yourself as reliable to the survey companies they will reward you with the highest paying surveys out there.  I can tell you it’s quite a rush when you get that first $75 survey!
